The Recipe for Gertrude is kind of a weird shoujo. Firstly, it doesn't have one of those female MCs who get weak in the knees or has a complicated love life because of a love triangle. It's primarily the growth of a young girl named Sahara, and the difficult choices she has to make - between her love, and her family. She gets caught up in the mess of Gertrude, a demon made of choice, powerful bodyparts of other demons who wants nothing more than to find a certain mysterious object called "The Recipe". Unfortunately, while he looks for the Recipe, other demons are hunting him down - because he's got their bodyparts. Sahara gets tangled up with this and - despite that, she spends time with Gertrude. Why? Because it's a shoujo.
Eventually it's discovered - Sahara has the Recipe. Not only that, she is the Recipe. Her brother, it turns out, is actually the madman scientist Claude, who not only created Gertrude, but also returned to life in the body of her brother and magically embedded the Recipe into her bones in order to prevent it from being stolen. Unfortunately, Claude doesn't intend to give it back - at least, not to Gertrude, not for that. It's discovered that Gertrude is a mistake - he wasn't even supposed to live, not like this. The frankenstein body was initially made out of curiosity, but his wife's twin sister - a frail-bodied half-demon named Gertrude - out of greed decided to take the body for herself, so that she may have a healthy body. Not only that, but she stole the soul of her sister so her sister could not have Claude - because Gertrude loved Claude. She took both her and her sister's souls and forcefully fed them to the inanimate frankenstein body, jumpstarting it to life. Because Gertrude was the strongest force in the body for a while, the frankenstein monster called himself Gertrude too - eventually, though, the frankenstein monster won out and became the Gertrude that we know in the main canon, while the other two souls in the body slowly merged together to form - not quite a soul, but rather, a blast of negative energy in the body that encompassed two desires: destruction and greed.
Claude spent years - lives, trying to fix this. He intended to use a Rewind spell on Sahara so that he might use her life energy in order to rewind Gertrude's body, so that his wife's soul would come out. Unfortunately, that meant both Gertrude and Sahara would die - if the spell was completed. For the sake of saving Sahara, Gertrude sacrifices himself by destroying his own body.
It is then that he lands in a place - an underground city, landing on the team with red robes. Angels ruled the city, protecting the city, while a wall barricaded them from the rest of the world. They were told that magic corruption was running rampant and - they were here to be protected. Their memories were lost - for whatever reason, a different reason than the reason they were here, but their memories could be bargained for by the Angels, provided the new residents entertained them in Games. Gertrude - newly named Copper - quickly became attached to his team.
Unfortunately, it's short lived—his teammate and he are nabbed into The Library, landing on Cardinal. From then on it's Four Year Bad End AU where there's a lot of turnover and murder. Because Copper is a lonely baby and gets codependent on Alone in this AU, he gets a little murdery and yan because Decollage. But he's still 100% likes to act chill as ice and fakes everything really hard because he's dumb.

• "Frailty, thy name is:" - the ability to control an object by applying his magical blood to the object with the above words. It must be completely written; it can control a person only if they are completely willing to do it. (In canon, Gertrude only uses it on himself, primarily to take back control of his body from the beast that dwells inside it.) Chosen because it's essentially his Main Power and it's great. It's a great power.
• Warping - the ability to warp from one place to the other; power limitations as follows: cannot warp out of the city, can only warp if he knows the place well enough to picture it in his head when he warps there. This one is cool so I'm keeping it.
• Demon physique - well, he is a demon. So he's generally heightened in strength and stamina. He's considered a powerful demon, as he's made up of powerful demon parts - but instead of multiple powers do to every single individual demon bodypart he has, I'm just going to say that he's just generally stronger and has more stamina.
